SWC Annual Report 2014 Cover

The global mergers and acquisitions markets exploded in 2014. It was the year state-owned investors shook off the lingering effects of the financial crisis and sought to put their money to work. Sovereign wealth funds pumped more capital into the markets than at any point since the financial crisis, clocking up 303 direct investments with a total value of $84.5 billion. Eighty three percent of those deals were made abroad, as state-owned investors looked to diversify their foreign exchange holdings and reap a tidy profit in the process.
