SWF Investment in Technology

Institutional Investor's Sovereign Wealth Center has recorded 106 sovereign wealth fund investments in the technology sector over the past ten years. Sovereign funds have a reputation for being risk-averse, so it's perhaps surprising to see them allocate capital to high-risk start-ups rather than access this industry through venture and growth capital funds. Because most technology companies are at an early stage of development, sovereign wealth funds don't typically allocate more than $50 million at a time to these investments, so they've only deployed a total of approximately $7 billion over the 106 deals.
